Is there a way that I can hook up my 2003 yamaha 4 stroke to my lap top to check the hours or do I have to take it to the dealer. Is there a program that can be loaded into my laptop. thanks
Re: checking the hours on yamaha with home computer
no my tach does not have an hour meter, in fact the tack is a 1994 model like the boat and it was originally hooked to a 90 horse yamaha jet, 1998 model. will the software diagnose engine troubles also.
Re: checking the hours on yamaha with home computer
if its a 94 tach it wont work correctly on that motor other than showing only RPM. no trim no alarm visual indicators, yes the ECU can store trouble codes. you will find it rarely tells you whats wrong only what is not wrong.
Re: checking the hours on yamaha with home computer
Yep, ya can get the software but then ya gotta download the patch from their dealer site. Then ya gotta call the tech support for them to walk ya thru intalling the patch. Don't know why they just didn't send us another disk with everything already loaded. But then everyone can get the program. Gotta do this to another laptop at the shop and dreading going thru it again.
Re: checking the hours on yamaha with home computer
I think I might have found a tach that gives me the hours, trim, oil, and engine temp. It is yamaha part number 6y5-8350t-82-00 It is a digital multi function yamaha tach. I can get it for 250.00. Do you guys think it will hook up to my existing plugin. I have a yamaha model 703 throttle remote. The boat is a 1994, I as I said I have the 2003 yamaha 4 stroke on it. Thanks alot for your help. The dealer around here is still new at the yamaha stuff and cant tell me much.
Re: checking the hours on yamaha with home computer
I think the -82 tach will require a 26 dollar adapter to work with the 04 motor, I posted about it last night. tell him its in the rigging guide and the 05 marine technical guide. you will need the 95 and up trim/alarm harness from the engine to the tach.
Re: checking the hours on yamaha with home computer
another quick question for you pros, on my 2003 yamaha 4 stroke outboard 115 horse, can I install two seperate gauges, a temp gauge and an oil pressure gauge. I have found some here on iboats in the marine mega mall section. My tack that I have now works fine for rpm's, but I would like to monitor oil pressure and engine temp. the gauges are made by teleflex morse.
