I just about had given my oil level sender up for dead, not knowing if the problem was in the sender or the multi-function gage. After poking around with my ohm meter, I discovered that the ground wire screwed into the lower engine shroud was not making contact. After I corrected this, the oil sender works fine. I hope this helps someone with a similar problem.
Now for my question: I bought this engine used, and the toggle switch on the control is supposed to be for the choke. This switch does nothing. The engine starts ok anyway. After removing my oil reservoir tank, I found a black plastic solenoid-like device next to one of the carburetors. One wire is busted off irreparably.
What is this solenoid? is it for the choke? Thanks.
