Hi all<br />I am considering buying a 87 Yamaha 150 HP. First Yammie. Any thing in particular I need to know about? Anything to look for when looking the motor over (other than the normal things like compression etc).<br />thanks much<br />bill

I would check to see if shift rod has been changed,older models had steel shift rods which they later changed to stainless.Power head has to be removed to change.good luck

I just finished riggin the motor and took it to the lake. Boat previously had a 115 Merc and would do in the mid 30's at 5200 RPM with what seemed like an interminable wait for plane off. Now planes in about 1 second and runs about 48 MPH at 4900RPM with a 19" prop. Looking for a 17" prop to get the revs nearer to the spec of 5500. This thing runs quiet and doesn't smoke much - I love it.

Instead of buying a new prop try raising the motor to gain rpms and efficiency.
