I've taken my 1993 Yamaha 9.9 outboard completely apart (except the block) to clean out the salt deposits. I found a lot of salt accumulations in the head which I've cleaned out. Then I opened up the upper drive shaft housing and found a whole bunch more salt accumulations that I meticulously sanded away. In all honesty, I can't understand why Yamaha would create so many places for salt to accumulate with no way to get out. On the very back of the upper housing there is a pocket where the water does not drain out and I was wondering if I could put a drain plug in there or at least some sort of valve that I could squirt water into right where the salt accumulated in these pockets. I could fill them with JB Weld until it's thick enough to thread a water hose **** of some sort. It doesn't seem like there would be any pressure there that would need to be maintained. Any comments on this from anybody? I am following another guys suggestion (http://www.intergate.com/~arenius/Ya...yamaha9_9.html -- no longer available in web)about adding some flush valves on both sides at the top, but why not right where the salt really holds up too.

To be a little more precise, this is a 1993 Yamaha T9.9MXHR. The exact location that has no way of draining is on the rear of the upper casing behind the pee hole. It has a rubber gasket surrounding the top called the "cover, upper casing" (#15, 6G8-45151-00-00) gasket shown in the upper casing view on (http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/parts/home.aspx). I don't really understand why this little enclosed area even exists. Why couldn't it have two little holes in the bottom of each side where the salt holds up so the water could drain out either into the upper casing or outside (it already sits next to the pee hole). Does anybody know why this little compartment even exists besides to create salt decay?
