Have a 1996 Suzuki 115 fuel injected 2-stroke and want to repower with a 2004 Suzuki 140 4-stroke. Can you bolt up the new and use the old wire harness, controls, and tach or go with new? Also will the prop from the old fit the new shaft? Some say you can use all the old stuff and others say they will not work. Are they just trying to sell extra? Need non-profit feedback.

Re: Suzuki conversion

Ok, here's the deal - The main harness, key switch and stop switch will work as is. The control box needs to be converted from "pull to open" to "push to open". If you have a binnacle mount box or concealed side mount, it's easy - no parts needed. If it's a surface mount side box, you will need to change a link inside the box. You will need a new monitor harness, unless your dealer still has some of the 2 to 4 stroke adapter ends. You can keep the same tach, but will have to buy a 4-stroke monitor gauge from Suzuki (they just came out with separate gauges this year), or you can purchase a new tach with the monitor functions built in. Your prop will not fit.
