Yamaha T8 Gear Oil Capacity Problem

I have a 2005 Yamaha T8PXRC on my boat as a kicker motor. The gear oil capacity calls for 12 oz, although when I fill it, I only get in 7 or 8 oz before it starts pouring out the upper hole.

Just to be clear, I am filling it through the bottom hole until it comes out the top hole. I adjust the engine trim so the engine is straight up and down.

Is there something I am doing wrong? I'm worried there is not enough oil in it.

if you are squirting it in the bottom and its coming out the top everything is going exactly to plan and will be fine. use new plug washers.
