Default YAMAHA 55EL choke.

on my YAMAHA 55 EL there seems to be something missing on the choke mechanism, Firstly the choke is electrically opperated by a solenoid ,the two choke butterflies are inter connected by a link, which are activated by the solenoid, but the bottom carburettor choke shaft has a plate (cam shape) with cutout stops for the butterfly shaft movement, this "plate" still has a plastic linkage style clip attached to it but no linkage,I thought that this linkage might connect to the fast idle speed adjustment in some way,When I move this plate manually then the choke works normally, ( the plate is rotated until the butterflies just start to move) but if this plate is moved back to the rest possition then the choke will not opperate normally ,as though the choke butterflies are sticking open, has any body got a drawing of what this linkage arangement should look like and how this part of the choke should function,at the moment it looks as though the butterfly shaft is too far open, what is the correct procedure to set up the choke on this type of motor,Kind regards William Wright

Default Re: YAMAHA 55EL choke.

OK guys this morning I rolled the boat out of the workshop and went through the starting procedure and all worked well. What I did was as follows,I connected the muffs to the water supply and fitted the muffs to the motor. I then moved the plate around the bottom choke butterfly shaft, to a possition where the choke butterflies start to close, I then activated the electric choke ( which worked perfectly) the motor started on the second attempt and run fine so what I am saying is, if I manually activate the plate/ stop/ cam,the solenoid valve works perfectly but if the butterflies are fully open ( OFF THE STOPS) then the electric choke will not activate, (out of limit situation) so what I need is to find out how the linkage between the choke shafts and the throttle shafts work,is this a independent system or is it linked into the fast idle system. has any body got a photo of the linkages etc.kind regards William Wright.
