Can someone tell me how the choke works on this engine? To operate the choke do you hold the key in and turn to start or do you pump it a few times to start. The dealer told me to press the free accelerator button and move the throttle to little past position 1 at 35 degree and turn the key. When I do this the motor is hard to start - 4 to 5 times required to get it to start

Your dealer isn't terribly familiar with automatic chokes, apparently. As soon as you give it any throttle, it defeats the automatic choke. The Push To Choke ignition switch or toggle choke (depending what you have) serves no function on your motor. Leave the throttle at idle and start. It should start quite easily without any finagling from the operator. Only use the throttle-only once the motor starts.PS. If all else fails, read your owner's manual.

K7, like the others have said, just pump the bulb until hard, leave the throttle lever alone and turn the key. If the thing is set up correctly it'll start and fast idle (about 1100rpm) then settle down to idle at about 800-900 rpm. The EFI looks after everything for you.

EFI on an outboard works the same way as it does on your car. Pumping the gas pedal does absolutely nothing and there is no choke. Get in, turn the key and if it doesn't start, something is wrong.

Thanks everyone - wish the owners manual had better descriptions of some items like Prime Start

Why go to the owners manual when the mtc manual states , apply 12 volts to the fuel enrichment solenodes, if they click, it works. Mine clicked on my f-80 and it still would not start. No other data on the fuel enrichment system and this was a bonafied YAMAHA manual. Sometimes it is not the operator guys. fred

cause either way its wrong. the 60 in o5 is avalible as a carbed or EFI version. however neither will click when the choke is depressed as the EFI has no "enrichment " valveing, its all done with the temp sensor. the carbed version uses prime start with an automatic wax pellet type system that requires no operator input other than to turn the key. it specifically states in bold print DO NOT RAISE WARM UP LEVER. if it does not start correctly after using the owners manual prescribed procedure its broke, have it fixed. the F80 was not a prime start model and required some operator input, part of the reason it was dropped. by raising the warm up lever on a prime start model its actually possible to defeat the cold start features.
