Hey Guys, I had made a bet with a friend that the boat i am building would beat his in a drag race. We have both started out at the same point with simalar boats and have have also agreed on a deadline to finish or boats, basically if it wont rum by the last day of april you lose the race. Heres the pickle, my boat was just stolen three days ago . So to still have a chance i bought another boat (well my dad did) that dosent need much to get race ready. But now i think i have no chance of beating him. He has a 14 foot sears fb runabout (flatbottom) with a 1959 35hp seahorse. My new boat is a 14 hoursten glasscraft (kinda heavy and wide0 with a slight v-hull and a 1969 50hp johnson. Do i still have a chance of winning? Should i juice up my motor a bit? p.s. there is 250 bucks and computer game on the line here. F-manp.p.s. srry for the odd questionp.p.p.s. I bought my new boat for 1200 bucks, everything works engine has zero hours on it since rebuild, perfect interior, nice trailer, just a little dirty, how did i do ?
Do a Search under "Setup" and look for stuff from DHadley. He's got tricks & advice on motor height, weight distribution, etc. etc. to get the utmost out of your rig. Setup is a huge factor in performance. Tuneup is another. Make sure you're getting all 50 horses (tuneup) then make sure you're using all 50 horses as efficiently as possible (setup). Loose whatever weight you can. Don't carry much gas and if you're a 250# dude get your skinny little brother to be the jockey. Finally, decarb your motor with Seafoam mix and pay attention to how it runs on Seafoam mix. I don't know why but my 1963 40HP Johnson seems to love Seafoam mix and performs better on it. I'll probably get comments on that statement but really - I get an extra 300RPM on the Seafoam!EDIT: Forget the decarb business - I posted before your edit about the motor having zero hours on a rebuild.
Thanks for the advice itstippy, and i am 15 year old who is a long distance bike racer so i haev a 6 foot 1 135 pound stick of a body so no probs with lovehandles slowing me down, hhhahahhaha
how about this give yourself a head start and put in shell optimax and octane booster have 101 RON and then anything in the boat you can take out do and see what happens
Sorry to heare that your boat was stolen.Woody, lets not get started on boosting octane in an outboard, not good.Better get that fresh rebuilt enging running and get her broke in before the big race.
