Hi all,

I have noticed all the 90HP/115HP engines seam to be the same engine, but obviously somthing is different in the 115HP, but the Displacement seams to be the same.

I am curious what is different that gains the extra 25HP, and can a 90HP be converted to a 115HP? If so what type of cost is involved in that conversion? Is there any information/sites about this?

I am going to be purchasing a 90HP 4-stroke, either a Yamaha, Johnson, or Mercury, which will do fine for me, probably for several years, but if/when the time comes i decide a little more power is required, I am curious if this upgrade is possible.

Thanks for the help,

-TheChad

If your hull is rated for 115 or more, I would buy the 115 now. Why haul the weight without the power? Others will explain why its not real simple to up the 90 to 115.

The Hull is rated for 115 Max HP.

I understand your point, but with the 90HP, I am at the end of my budget. The 115HP is about $1,200 more.

-TheChad

$1200 is a lot. $500 would be fair.

If your talking 4-stroke, the difference could be throttle body size, head design, valve size, camshaft for a different valve timing and lash, the electronics, etc...
To convert the 90 to 115 would be considered impractical due to cost.

I figured if we decided to upgrade to a 115 in say 5 years. A 115 by it self would be what? about $10,000?

So i figured if it cost $3000 to upgrade the 90HP, then it would be worth the difference..

But maybe it would be more pratical to trade in the engine, and upgrade to the 115HP?

-TheChad

Horsepower is cheaper when you buy the engine.
