How to check for WOT on Yamaha V4?

Hello,<br />My question about proper pitch problem on the General Discussion List, leads to another technical Yamaha doubt. Since 2 inches less pitch on the prop did not rise the max RPM, the chances are I don’t get to the wot. So, how do I check if the throttle is wide opened on my Yamaha 140HP V4 outboard? I think this one was not sold in the US but it’s very similar to other V4’s of this manufacturer (115HP for example). Thanks!

Re: How to check for WOT on Yamaha V4?

There are 2 aspects to WOT, the carb butterfly (or throttle body butterfly if its electronic fuel injection) and ignition timing advance. Timing advance may be a mechanical linkage or electronic in the ignition in later models. You can look at the throttle butterflies with the engine off and the throttle wide open. The butterflies should be all the way open (parallel to the flow of air). If it is mechanical advance timing the mechanism should be at full advance. If its electronic you would need to check the timing at full throttle with a timing gun.
