I have stripped a 3.5hp 2stroke, for one of the
handicapped youngsters in our yacht club, as they thought it had seized,
however the fault is that the drive shaft had corroded into the lower
extention from the engine..(this is the alloy casting that carries the small seal, just below the lower main bearing seal).this appears just to have been because the
engine had not been fresh water flushed after normal sea use...this has been
easily cleaned up, but does not appear to have any normal means of
lubrication,,,,any advice on this point or past experience of the same would be appreciated...

Regards

Mike

Hi
I am not familiar with 3HP but you have been waiting for a reply. The shaft will have splines to connect with the power head, just under the splines is a groove on some motors to fit an O ring. When reassembling put a good smear of grease on the splines but NOT on the end of the shaft or it will not push in properly.
Greasing the splines should be done annually when checking the water pump.
Cheers
sir les pat
