I have a 1996 DT 75 that has been running great until this year. Now it only wants to start when the tilt is all the way up. Runs great after starting but it will not start in the lowered position. Any ideas?

Just an idea: A wire for the starter motor is making a shortcut when in normal position.

The motor cranks fine; it just will not fire.

OK, then. Could a ignition or kill swith wire make a shortcut?

Pull the plugs and check to see if its not running when its down due to lack of spark and if the spark returns when you put it up. You may find the point where it quits. I think UU is on the right track, a wire or connection in the ignition circuit is grounding at a certain tilt and killing the spark. The other possibility is that you have a stuck float that is flooding it in the down position.
