Hi. Have a Yam F90TLRC (2004) which I just purchased. I have it all hooked up (in my garage) with controls, battery and the whole nine. I get battery power to all feeding points on relays etc, but I can't get anything to happen, not even tilt action by pushing the button on the actual engine house. I don't get even a click. Nothing works from the control either - tilt, cranking or whatever. Battery feeds about 15 volts to all vital points, and fuses are good. Bought it from a private seller (from a distance), who isn't a tech either, and worked fine (he says). Thing is hardly run, and looks brand new wherever you look. I am clueless on this one - I must be missing something obvious. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
look at the inline fuse near the starter solinoid. and what vital points are you testing? does the tach selftest and light up? 15 volts indicates ya got something way way wrong. battery voltage is only about 12.5 or so. with the key on go between the black wire and yellow wire. should show battery voltage. what control/ign harness are you using ?
Thanks for your reply. I check at e.g. feeding point at the relays for the trim/tilt. Battery is at about 15V (externally charged, charger produces at around 14,8-15). As soon as you put a load to it, it of course falls to about 13 or so - pretty much like in any of my cars. Most chargers or alternators - in my experience - charge at 14-15. I'll check according to your suggestions and get back. BTW, I am using the 703 control and the digital tach/speedo.
ok on the pigtail from the 703 you will see a green wire,yellow wire a black wire and a red wire. hook your meter up between the black wire and the red, should have 12 volts. then black to yellow with key on. should have 12 volts. if no voltage is present go back to the starter solinoid and make sure the correct wires for the 12v power tap is on the correct post and insure the inline fuse is good. and dont test anything with the battery charger on. gives false readings.
Thanks! Will do some testing soon, hopefully tomorrow. Just to be certain, when you say inline fuses, I suppose you mean the 2 guys above the relays, close to the starter? Checked the wiring diagram in the shop manual, and I can only find those two. Another question, while I am at it - even if I only have the battery connected, no control or gauges, the tilt switch on the motor housing should work, right? Again, according to the diagram, it should be pretty straight forward, the wiring to that switch is just parallel to the one on the control. Anyways, I'll dig according to your instructions and we'll see what comes out of that. Thanks again.
Well, something happened, although I don't know exactly what. Hooked everything up today, to do some further testing, and everything works - just like that. I am clueless as to what the problem was... hopefully it doesn't reappear once I am out with the boat. Thanks for the kind help!!
