I have a 1986 Yamaha 130 and would rather mix my oil with the gas than trust this oil injection system. How do I disconnect the injection system? After that do I just run 50:1 oil to gas mixture like the old days? Am I crazy to want to do this?

I never heard of any problems with Yamaha's injection system. There was an inline checkvalve update once upon a time, but I think that was about the only thing. And that was just an upgrade, nothing serious. The problems I hear most about involve early Johnnyrude VROs and Merc's pump drive gear failures. That was back around 1986. The American companies were playing catch-up. Japaneese outboards had them first (not including those funky Accumix and Autoblend gadgets).

The earliest models imported were 1984's. There were some oil injection gear problems with Yamaha through the 1986 models before changing the drive gear. Removing the oil injection from that model involved removing the parts including the oil pump and drive shaft for the pump and blocking the hoses to the intake. A plate is available for the oil pump hole off the consumer V-4 or V-6 models or a nickel and some DEvcon or JB weld can be used to block the hole.

The 1988 model is almost identical. Same procedure as the earlier model.

disconnected oil system 11 years ago after changing power head.removed eng drivin oil pump put plate over blockplugged line going to carbs removed all electrical did not rejet carbs never had any problemsengine will smoke alittle moreplugs were change every 6mo.ran the cheapest 2 stroke oil i coudld find usually havalinemixed aproa 50-1somtimes 75-1 with no problemsengine lasted 2000hrs before repalce with 4 stroke good luck
