Gas question for 50 H.P. Yamaha

I have a 50 H.P. Yamaha 4 stroke. Does anyone know what is the best octane for this engine? Premium or Regular. A dealer told me not to use Premium. He suggested a fuel additive from Yamaha. Costs about $10 for a small bottle.<br />Thanks for your help.<br />Makky

Use what the manufactures motor manual recommends.

We use 87 octane in our "02" bf50. That is the recommended flavor for that year and I would imagine it is the same for yours, but you should check for your year. If you are interested in an additive, I would also check with Honda. Granpa

Sorry, I was reading Yamaha and my brain was saying Honda. Thats old age setting in. I'll bet that 87 octane is also the recommended fuel for the yamaha but as the man said check with the manufacturer. Granpa

My 1989 175 Yamaha says to use 87 oct. Good Luck
