Anyone have any experience with these? Made by Attwood....it's a recoiling anchor rope system that tucks under the gunwale. Can anyone tell me how big/weight of an anchor they can hold....any opinions on these?

Re: anchor rein

The anchor rein doesn't hold the anchor nor can it absorb anchor shock, it's merely a rope storage facility. The one I had sprung the spring the first time I "dropped" the anchor. After repairs, I played it out by hand and didn't have another problem. They don't hold much rope, though, maybe 40'.

Doesn't hold the anchor? I don't follow....so you're not supposed to attach an anchor to these, they are meant for mooring?

Re: anchor rein

Yes, you do attach the anchor. But you don't "hang" the anchor by the reins, or just put the anchor over the side and let it go. It's just a spring loaded spool that isn't designed for loading ...
