Is it really a 2002 motor??? serial number

I have heard that some dealerships scam consumers by selling them last years motor on a new boat, while the customer thinks it is a current motor.<br /><br />I just purchased a 50 merc 4 stroke (50ELHPT) Serial number is OT583617.<br /><br />Is this a 2002 motor, or a 2001??? I've got my fingers crossed. Thanks for the help.

I will run the serial number on Merc Net when I get to work tomorrow and let you know.

Your serial number is a 2002 engine and was billed to the dealer 3-27-2002.
