Yamaha late '80s 25-30 HP gearcase interchange questions

Hi all, I have a Yamaha 25 HP long shaft (20"), unknown year but suspect late '80s. Numbers off plate: 25LK, 6H7, L, 301225. I need a gearcase/lower unit.

There is a gearcase available with the following numbers: 30LH, code 6J8L, serial 401041.

Here are the questions:

1. Is there a way I could look up the model numbers myself to determine what year these are?

2. If no, what year are these?

3. Will this 30 horse gearcase bolt up to my 25 long shaft?

hello

some where in the marine tech guide yamaha has a gearcase/powerhead interchange chart. its time for a dealer visit.

Below is a link to Yamaha 25hp 1984 first year model foot. It has the same water foot as all the other 25hp models listed.

1. Go to the web site above, guess the year and see if your model number is listed.

2. 25LK is 1985; 30LH is 1987.
