Does the Yammie have enough to push the carolina skiff adequately? The 25hp seems heavy at almost 150lbs for the long shaft. Running it with an older Johnson 15hp (basically a juiced 9.9hp) now and would like a little more push. Absolutely love the yammie 4-strokes ..Own the 115hp and thouroughly sold on the quality. Dont wanna go the 2 stroke route ...they just dont cut it any more once youve gone the 4-stroke route.

Howdy, Scupbaron.

Your Johnny is 15CID, which means to me that the 9.9 is a detuned 15, not the other way around.

If the Johnny 15 wont push you CS "adequately", I don't think the Yammy 15 4S will either.

You might look into the Tohatsu/Nissan 18 4S, But I think you are going to need at least 25 horses to run your CS 20-25mph.

Good luck. :)

Thanks for imput. Curious if you knew the displacement of the old OMC 15hp's ..The 15 Yammaha powerhead, minus valves looks dramitically bigger at 20 cu/.in. May have to just go the 25hp route and keep the gear stored way up front. I looked at Nissan/Tohatsu ..i know there powerheads are decent but everything around it seems less rugged than the Yahama.

Howdy.

The 15 before the early 70s model was made in '56. It was 19.94 CID.

It was bumped to 22CID in '57 as an 18, which was made until the intro of the 9.9/15 block.

Good luck. :)
