Just got A new Yamaha saltwater series 225. I put it on A 21 foot center console. What I wanted to know is 5200 rpm and 42 mph top out sound ok for this combo? I was hoping for A little more top end. I was told I could switch to A different prop and gain another 400 or 500 rpm If I do that what will that do for the mph? Also what rpm should the motor Idle at in nuetral?

Re: Yamaha 225 top end rpm

Your doing pretty good if you ask me! If your looking for a gain in RPM you will loose speed. Good rule of thumb is One degree increase in prop pitch= 200 RPM lose but a increase in speed.
