I can't get the lower unit off. The shift Cam rod will not let the lower unit drop off? I've tried changing the gear shift position from FWD to Neutral to Rev and it doesn't do anything. How do I get the lower unit down so I can check the impeller?

IB think there is a treaded disconnect. some of the small engines used a connector block. I have not looked at an 8hp in years so I would suggest a quik trip to the throne with a service manual and catch up on some required reading good luck and keep posting
