I'm seriously thinking about buying a 1991 Bayliner 2080 with a completely rebuilt Force 120 4 HP I/O with about 60-70 hours on it. I can probably get the boat, with trailer, for $5,000. This would be my first boat and my wife and I and kids would use it on weekends for skiing and such. But I've heard a wide variance of opinions on Force motors -- I know they were discontinued about 10 years ago, so are they now something to stay away from? Are they bad motors? Or will they function quite well for my purposes, which admittedly, are novice at best? Are there legit pros and cons to this motor? Thanks

Welcome soxfan!

My own opinion would be to stay away from the rig. Keep looking. I'm sure there will be others just as opinionated as me to answer.

Hello:

I totally agree with OBJ, Force motors are nothing but the old Chrysler outboards, they never were rated at the prop like all of the other motors.

Something you said in your post confuses me though (1991 Bayliner 2080 with a completely rebuilt Force 120 4 HP I/O), First off, Force never had an I/O setup. They did try a variation called an L drive, but that didn't last too long. Another thing, if you are planning on skiing behind your boat, 120hp on a 20foot boat isn't going to cut it. Keep looking, something better will come along.

Craig
