Cold Weather Trim Position Question

Guys:

I have a quick question. I have a 2001 250HP Yamaha outboard on my boat. I put her in the water a week ago today, and I have been leaving the motor trimmed down when I come in from fishing. The air temperatures at night have been pretty cold. I have always been under the impression that leaving the motor down in cold weather eliminates the chance of water freezing in the powerhead or lower unit. Is this correct?
