I have a 95 Yamaha 200hp outboard. Engine starts a little hard, but runs very well once it gets going. When I restart the engine in neutral afer running for awhile (stop for a little fishing), the engine stalls when I put it in gear and give it some throttle. It'll idle along in gear at about 1000rpm, but stalls if I try to accelerate. If I nurse it and fiddle around with it for awhile, it restarts and runs fine again. Have put in new in-line gas filter, cleaned gas filter on engine, primer bulb is ok, and have had carbs cleaned. Done the simple stuff. Mechanic suggests problem may be in Alternator/Stator not putting out enough volts at low end. Says output should be 14V. Gauge on center console shows about 11V while engine is running. Any ideas? Thanks.

I presently run 89 octane fuel. Have had same problem earlier with 87 octane. Fuel is fresh. Plugs are new NGK BR8HS-10 gapped at 1.0mm. Thanks Capt.

I had a similar problem which ended up being the powerpack. A few questions:

Does it ever bog down while travelling?
Do you travel far to go fishing?
Is your battery delivering 12 volts?
Does it restart only when cooled down?

Engine does not bog down while traveling; runs great up through 5000rpm (max I run it) without any power loss.
Will travel sometimes 30 to 45 minutes to go fishing, rarely longer.
Battery, and spare, deliver 12volt with volt meter attached.
Once running, engine restarts in neutral without a problem. Problem occurs when putting it in gear and trying to throttle forward to get going--then engines dies.
