I recently purchased a small skiff with a Yamaha 30GW (electric start) that had a hole in the hull leading into the compartment where the battery was, submerging it. The owner was able to demonstrate the engine was working by hand-pulling it. I have fixed the hole in the hull and bought a new battery and had 2 questions.

1. I (very stupidly) cut the ends off the old battery leads without noting which was positive and negative. How can I tell, there is no color coding on the leads? Is the lead that goes to the starter motor the positive?

2. Is there any damage to the engine or other electrics that I should watch out for as a result of the battery going underwater?

Many thanks and keep up the great work.
