Default Yamaha 30G battery underwater

I recently purchased a small skiff with a Yamaha 30GW (electric start) that had a hole in the hull leading into the compartment where the battery was, submerging it. The owner was able to demonstrate the engine was working by hand-pulling it. I have fixed the hole in the hull and bought a new battery and had 2 questions.1. I (very stupidly) cut the ends off the old battery leads without noting which was positive and negative. How can I tell, there is no color coding on the leads? Is the lead that goes to the starter motor the positive?2. Is there any damage to the engine or other electrics that I should watch out for as a result of the battery going underwater? Many thanks and keep up the great work.

Default Re: Yamaha 30G battery underwater

hello the positive wire will go back to the starter solinoid. the negative will go back to the block. I use an ohm meter to trace them. good luck and keep posting
