Circa 1977 Merc 402 with mercontrol twin lever unit

Whilst searching for an electrical fault I dismantled the mercontrol unit to check the neutral switch, due to the amount of grey grease in the unit I didn't see the little roller until it fell out! Can anyone tell me what it does and where it goes? Thanks

Re: Mercontrol assembly

it's part of the neutral safety switch, it rolls along the shift cam and actvates the switch.

The little roller fits in a groove in the main cam. its is the neutral detente. It clicks in so you can tell it is in neutral to start.
