I would appreciate any help in determining what might be causing this problem.

Twice in the past week my 1999 200 hp merc.tilted up to the trailering position all by it self. The first time was immediately after I cut on the battery switch. The second time was after I started the engine and was idling for about a minute. Both times I was able to get the engine to go down by pressing down on the T/T switch located on the engine. Pressing down on the T/T switch located on the trottle handle had no effect and the T/T motor continued to run even after the engine was all the way up.

I suspect that it may be the T/T switch on the engine cowl(sp?) shorting internally, but I suppose it could also be the solenoid.

Has anyone had this problem and what was the fix?

Thanks for your help..

Ed

Re: Mysterious Tilt / Trim problem

Welcome to iboats.

My first suspicion would be the switch at the helm. If pressing it had no effect, then it sounds like there is a malfunction there somewhere. Do you have a meter? You have a short in the wiring, and you need to check it starting at the helm switch.
