long story made short. I purchased a 1990 Tracker with a "classic 50" Merc 4 cly motor. for a grand . compression checked out at 138 psi on all clys.
after repairing center rib leaks and some stress cracks, the boat runs great. whats the max rpm on this engine? it has a stainless steel prop and
i'm not sure of the pitch but it will spin up to 6200 rpm. I don't want to blow the engine. I've had 4 different Merc's and destroyed them all.
When a 200 hp Merc blows at 6300 rpm its pretty impressive.
I've had 3 Rude's and never hurt the first one.

Re: WOT ?

You must have a pontoon prop on there.

I'd guess you need a prop pitch between 11 and 13. Have a look, it should be stamped on the side of the prop. If you have one in this range, I'd suspect that the tach is set wrong. There is a rotary switch on the back to allow for most any outboard to work with it. It may be on the wrong setting.
