Re: merc question

jamie, search in the johnson/evinrude forum for 'awakenening a sleeping outboard' it was written for johnny/rudes but is pertinent to merc's also. don't toast your engine.

Re: merc question

Awakening a sleeping outboard says it all.

most likely your problems are water pump impeller is dead or not far from it. and the carb/s need rebuilding.

a manual is also needed to do this and about 3-4 hours.

it sounds like its worth it.

Re: merc question

You're going to have to do a water pump. That rubbber impeller is hard as a rock right now and it sounds like it's disentegrating as it begins working after all this time. This is pretty universal of motors sitting around for years at a time.
