check/replace water pump impeller 1961 mecury 6 hp

Hi,<br /><br /> I just bought this motor and would like to check<br />the water pump impeller. Can anyone tell me where to break the lower unit apart. I noticed there are 2 nuts near the bottom and 6 nuts that hold the upper housing to the bottom of the motor. Thanks for your help in advance.<br /><br /><br />Fred D. :confused:

Remove the 2 nuts on the bottom 1 faces down under the cav. plate and the other up, in the front of it

Hey Fred...<br />I just replaced my first Impeller on an Inline 115hp. I dropped my lowerunit when it was Neutral. You might want to pick up a manual or goto the library and borrow one for a bit. As far as precautions go I marked the shift shaft and prop and Driveline to make sure nothing Spun while I was working on it. These precautions were not necessary but I wanted to make sure I didn;t screw anything up. I also Used wood shims to seperate the lowerunit. <br />Joe.
