Default 2003 Yamaha 115 four stroke oil leak

I have a 115 Yamaha that went in for its first 100hr service and came back leaking oil after the boat was stopped. The oil looked like it was mixed and only dispensed out of the top unit drain once the motor came off a three of four hour troll. On a revisit to the shop the oil leak still can not be located and still continues to happen when the boat is shut down. I have heard that this may be coming out of the dipstick by other sources but can not be sure.

Hello can you be more specific. I have no clue as to a top unit drain? can you post what they did for a 100 hour service? the yamaha owners and service guides really dont have any maintence other than oil change for the lower unit and the power head. no valve adjustments or anything. if it was overfilled with engine oil it may force some out. my guess is that some was spilled and it is still dripping out from the engine lower cowling. dang engineers screwed us again. its very difficult to remove a filter mounted on its side without making a mess. try the v6 sometime. anyway look very close at the oil level then look on the stbd side and see if any oil was spilled. if not then further investigation will be nessasary. good luck and keep posting.

They spilt the oil in the engine pan when they pulled the oil filter off. You need to spray the engine down with a cleaner/degreaser (super clean) and wash the engine down with water. Tip the engine up when you wash out the engine pan.

Check to make sure the oil filter is tight. You can put the wrong filter on this engine. There are some filter that are close but leak. If is tight is right.
