1983 Mercury 150 hp, When turning hard, either way, engine rpm spins way up and sounds like prop is out of water. Prop is not out of water, runs great when driving straight or shallow turns.

Re: spinning prop

If it is trimed down and still does it sounds like a spun hub. You can check it by making a mark across it drive it and see if the marks still lign up if not you will have to get it re-hubed it cost $50.00-$75.00 at a prop shop.

Re: spinning prop

It doesn't have to be completely out of the water for the rpms to sky-rocket... You may just be loosing prop bite on the water.. Try to turn with the motor trimmed down and see if it happens again. If it doesn't the motor is trimmed too high or too high on the transum. If it still does, it could be a spun hub. You can make marks with a permanent market on the inner and outer hub so they line up with each other. After a run on the lake, if they don't line up again, the hub is bad...

Re: spinning prop

I've watched the prop when turning and it does stay fully underwater. It happens full throttle in tight turns. Maybe it's slipping when extra force is put on the prop in the turns?

Re: spinning prop

That is what a bad hub will do. Check it and If it is a bad hub It will get worse and worse. It needs to be fixed ASAP or it could do something bad to motor. Like over rev and BANG$$$.
Check with your local dealer and see if you have a prop shop in your aera or check your phone book.
Good luck, Tim
