FYI, I have a 05 200 optimax in yhe shop right now that has a miss and the shop called mercury and the problem was found and the cylinder sleeve turned about 15 degrees blocking off over half of the exhaust port. the power head has to be replaced. for pixs e-mail me @ crappieslab@aol.com the service tech said mercury said they have seen 5 on the 225 xs models and this is the only 200 optimax they have seen. For the problems of the miss (whitch they called it a surg is under 05 optimax miss on this fourm.

Re: 200 & 225 xs/optimax miss problems

I lost cylinder #6 on my port 200HP 2005 optimax. What clinder # did you loose. #6 is lowest one on the port side. I found a dealer in Florida who has relaced 28 powerheads last summer for the 3 liter, 6 cylinder optis on cylinder #6. Every single one he did. Loss of compression is the typical result, scored cylinder walls. Mine acted up about 45 seconds after gong on plane - lost 1k rpm so I pulled back the sticks and shut them down. No warnings from ECU of any type.
