Mercury 150 xr2 not revving up

I am having some problems with my engine. Ok here's the deal it runs fine at idle. Then when you give it the gas it will go to about 2000 rpms(sometime a little higher) and just bogs down and won't rev any higher. I've already cleaned the carbs and the tank as well as changed the plugs. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Check for spark on all the cylinders...<br /><br />And when you cleaned the carbs, did you take them apart and really clean them or just spray seafoam in the throats...?

Im with Kclost here sdounds like spark. Is the trigger opening when you throttle up? Sounds like the timing is advancing. Check that the trigger is moving, and WOT timing.

docd, <br />The trigger is a fixed item, doesn't move, and is located under the flywheel..<br />It triggers the switchboxes to release the charge to the coils/plugs...

KCLOST-<br />For once I have to disagree with you.<br />The trigger moves with the upper extension of the throttle lever via a lever arm coming from the trigger. The top screw on the throttle lever is the stop screw for the max advance. So when you initially give some throttle the trigger "advances" counter-clock wise and thus advances the timing. Eventually (around 3/4-full throttle) the max advance screw hits and the timing is no longer advanced.<br /><br /><br />Mark-<br />Check for spark on all 6. But it sounds like dirty carbs. Need to disassemble and really clean em' and blow out every orifce with compressed air. <br /><br />The 2000 RPM number is a curious one because...<br />However, the "lubalert" aka warning module haults your engine to 2000 RPM's if it thinks its overheating or low on oil. If this was happening your warning horn should sound, but your warning horn might be damaged. Sometimes the overheat sensor grounds causing this effect.
