1994 Mercury 2.5L, 200 XRI Model 750 Power Surge/Loss at 1500 rpm

Bought my new/used boat Friday. On test drive, noticed at 1500 rpm's the power surges/sputters. Idles great and runs well otherwise. <br /><br />I don't know if the fuel is old. I bought from a dealer. I topped the fuel before launching and found this issue. My brother suggested I put some additives in and run it to see if anything changes. <br /><br />Should I siphen out the gas, start with new? <br /><br />I'm on a satisfaction guarantee and bringing it <br />in Monday for detailing and any issues I find over the weekend. <br /><br />Any assistance would be greatly appreciated<br /><br />seriel number seems to be 0g017735 or 2b66756V<br />Thanks!<br />Kris

You might try some sea foam in the gas. It is the best stuff you can use to stabilize fuel.I would try plugs also. How long has it sat? Usually old plugs will make one do that though. Good luck.

Thanks Doc!<br />I'd put in seafoam per my brothers suggestion last weekend while test driving.<br /><br />The found a switch boxes (electrical). Once they replaced the switch boxes, of course the stater (sp) went out. <br /><br />I really like this company. They've been very good to work with. Thanks for the suggestion, good first line of defense. Now I have a new electrical system c/o crystal pierz marine.<br /><br />Hoping this might help someone else with intermittant power surges ... runs great idle and fast/powerful at full speed.<br /><br />Kris

My 1994 125hp is a type that runs on only 2 cylinders at low RPM then all 4 cylinders above 2000 RPM. Perhaps yours is same. They did this by starving 2 bottom cylinders of fuel at low RPM. The purpose was smooth idling. They run rough and surge somewhere between 1000-2000 RPM. If yours if one of these there will be no idle screw on the bottom 2 carbs. They only did this for a few years, because users hated it.
