Battery charging?

I have a 1976 115 hp serial # 4313752. Does it charge the battery or do I need to use a charger on the battery? Eric

You can find some information here: http://www.oldmercs.com/197476Merc1150.htm It is not entirely clear, but it seems that some of these may have been produced without alternators.
