I am thinking of installing a bow pulpit to aid in my anchoring. Any recommendations? do's or don'ts?

I think I am going to make it out of teak with some pulleys and s/s hardware.

Re: bow pulpit

- Build it strong enough to carry at least 4X the working load of the anchor line. You don't want it to crack just when you need it the most.

- Make sure it's VERY well supported. You may need to add backing plates or blocks inside the hull. Use a good polyurethane sealant.

- Build the pulpit with an integral bow roller. Makes the line much easier to deploy/retrieve.

- If you plan to stow your anchor in the pulpit, make sure it fits properly in the opening and that there's a cleat very close for securing. A protection plate below the pulpit will keep the boat's nose free of gouges.
