i would like to thank everyon that responded to my first post... seems the stator and regulator solved the problem.
the motor is a 1989 mariner 150(oc126303), here's the bad news. the previous owner disconnected the horn for the overheat/lubealert module as it was beepin erratically. wanting to get all warnings operating correctly i set out to determine the problem. the bad news is that it turns out that the shaft for the oil pump is not turning. supposedly its a plastic gear that drives this thing but when i pulled the drive gear there were traces of metal shavings? fortunately the motor is still running and compression checked fine a month ago. my question is how bad am i screwd? does the powerhead need to be pulled and inspected or can i simply remove said injection components and replace w/ the kit that disables oil injection.
i would really like to keep the oil injection system, due to the fact that premix gas seems to gum quicker than plain gas. that would mean completly draining whatever fuel is left in the 170 gallon tank at the end of each season.
any help is appreciated

I am not a mechanic, but O would suggest you start pre-mixing 50-1 ASAP and then figure out how to do away with the system. It requires a tear down of the engine to replace the plastic gear, probably cost a lot more than what the motor is worth at this point of life span.
There is an electric pump system but pricy.
http://www.pamlicomarine.com/msi-eoi.shtml
Look at the bottom part of the page below the boats.

Re: mariner 150 oil injection problems

thanx again gss.. i sent a request for pricing on the electrtic pump but im a lil leary of it.. appears in the pic to have a ecu to control the amount of oil, another electrical component to go bad, heh. i think i trust the mechanical version more. 17 years and 350 hrs on a plastic gear is not bad at all. just glad i caught it before any major damage.

do u know if there are any problems encountered in premixing, since the pump varies the oil ratio from 100:1 @ idle to 50:1 @ wot. i.e. foul plugs idling out(close to a 20 min ride out of the channel?)

That's true, they were plastic gears that liked to fail. There are metal gears available. Others more familiar with the Mercs/Mariners will know more....

A few posts worth reading:

web page

web page

web page

No problems.
I've had mine running on premix for several years.. No fouled plugs or loading... Just smokes a little more at startup...

Your overheat sensor will still operate normally without the alarm module. You won't hear any test beeps however. That sensor is connected to a jumper to goes to the horn., when grounded out it sets off the horn at your console...

Re: mariner 150 oil injection problems

thanx again for all the input. looks like ill be disabling the oil injection on both motors until i win the lottery, as i believe both modules to be bad + the cost of the rebuild. if anyone has rebuilt one of these powerheads and could possibly give me the chances of getting by w/ just a re-ring and honing that would also be helpful(and aprox. cost in parts for doing so?)

and as for the replacement metal gear.... sounds like a bad idea to me.. ill take the plastic shavings anyday of the week. 17 years minus the metal shavings = a happy boater that caught the problem early

oh yeah, this boating thing is like a second full time job, damnit jim....only i'm not making 75$ an hour doing it(or my real job... :(
