Oil leak or....

HI guys. Rebuilt the carb and waterpump on my '78 9.8 merc. The engine sat for 1.5 years. Ran it for a while in a barrel; runs better than it ever did, but when I was finished there was a lot of oily foam on the water and dripping out at the prop. The oil in the lower unit (which was fresh) looks okay. Local marine shop said this motor exhausts thru the prop and this oil is the result of the engine sitting for so long that the unburnt oil in the exhaust passage has gathered at the bottom. I figured that it was the oil seal and was going to give this shop the work (as I don't have a press)But this is what the guy said. What do you guys think? Do I run it as is? Sorry for the long post.

You are likely fine, you allways get the oil slick you mentioned in a barrel, also, the engine will load up with oil and run down the leg running like that also. Take it out on the water and run it like ya stole it for awhile.
