Hello! I have a 1966 Merc 650, sn 2109652. I need to clean the carbs. I took off the support frames, and the starter. It seems to me that the distributor must come off as well. I found a post here from 2003 that says it doesn't. There is one nut on the distributor side of each carb that is impossible (for me) to get to. Is there a special tool made to reach these? Perhaps a way to get at them that I couldn't see? Thanx, Mike

You might bend a wrench and get in there.Or use a hammer and punch to unthread the nuts.

My experience is that you will have a very hard time reinstalling these nuts.

Also even if you do get the nuts off,the carb flanges will not clear the distributor.

You have, however, revealed why I do not like old Mercs.

DHP

Thanx DHP. I hadn't thought about the flanges. I didn't want to mess with the distributor, but I guess I'll have to. I guess I'll search the old posts for tips on removing it. Thanx again, Mike
