75 mariner (firing)

I have a 1987 75hp mariner 3 cylinder serial #0B130551 out fishing boat died from idle wouldnt start. My son tried to crank it a little ways up the river started for a second and never started again lost all fire going to the coils and dont know were to start my trouble shooting...thx for the help Howie...

Have you checked the kill switch?<br />Assuming the kill switch and key switch circuit are OK, the most likely cause is a bad stator. Do you have an ohm meter?

kill switch meaning emergency kill switch? or the key switch. the anser is no i havent checked anything yet.i do have an ohm meter what should i check and how? thx for the reply
