Re: Mariner conversion 6hp to 8hp 1996 2 stroke
I don't really know about a Mariner, but I've swapped carburetors between Suzuki Dt-6 and Dt-8s with no problem. In my case the parts between models was the same from the head gasket down .. that may not be true in your case, but it's easily checked.

I didn't swap heads, nor through bore the inlet. All I did was flute the inlet to a rounded shape ... like a velocity stack ... and the bigger carburetor bolted right on. Big gain in performance.

Find an 8 and measure the mounting studs. If they are the same ... good .. if not ... it means a head swap and that's not a good idea.

Then, look up the carb specs for both. They should be the same manufacturer and the only difference "should be" the bore diameter. If both those are true, then it's merely a bolt on swap with a little hand grinding around the inlet port.

I know I'm answering an Apple question with an Orange answer, but I'm implying that you should be able to do what you wish without a lot of problems.
