What would cause a piston to seize in the cylinder if the engine did not show HOT on temp gauge? Mercury 200 Black Max

Re: Mercury powerhead???

Lack of lubrication due to a carb restriction. Carbon fouling the piston rings.

Re: Mercury powerhead???

What can safeguard against this in future. I Do all the preventative maintenance and then some???? The engine was purring like a kitten and running cool. Had just cranked it up and was idling along!!! Plugs all burn exactly the same How are you suppose to know if one or more cylinders lean out and how long does this take to cause seizing? $5500 later, I dont want this worry! Any suggestions?
