I am almost ready to start rebuilding the fuel pump on my '77 1150. What do you use to clean the metal parts? Is there anything else I need other than the diaphram kit?

If the pumps perform unsatisfactory after the rebuild, get the non return valves aswell...

I didn't need anything to clean the pumps during rebuild. Used fuel here and there to flush.

I usually go for a "check valve" kit it will come with diaphram and gaskets.

Just make note which one faces which way before taking it apart.

Then I use some spray carb cleaner. A stiff brush, and maybe even a small screwdriver to dislodge stubborn deposits.
