separating lower unit from upper

2000 mercury saltwater 125hp model 1125422WD s/n 0t051119 In trying to access the water pump for the purpose of replacing the impeller unit I have been unable to separate the lower unit from the upper unit.followed intructions contained in the service manual to remove 5 nuts and placing the shifter in fwd pos.

I don't know your model setup (I'm sure plenty here do) but I would look to see if there is there a bolt under the trim tab, I don't think there is though. <br /><br />Also, sometimes they take encouragement to get off, just make sure everything that needs to be disconnected is before you start to pull hard on that L/U. Remember with all the bolts out the weight of the L/U is on the driveshaft so support its weight and pull straight, you don't want to bend your driveshaft
