trevorcday said in a post 04/01/2002 that you could uprate a Mercury 50 2002 to 60hp by changing the plastic restrictor plate behind the carbs for one from a 60 with larger holes.
Does this mean that the carb jets remain the same? Any idea of the Mercury Part No for the larger hole plate?
I have been looking at new twin Mercury EFi 50's, upgraded to 60, but I have been told that to upgrade the EFi models, I will need new electronic control units!
So back to how I can upgrade the existing 1996 & 1997 engines?

Get freindly with a partsman at your dealer. Have him look up the 50hp and the 60hp and compare the two looking to see whats different. I'll guess it is more than just a restrictor plate.

For 1996 50 and 60's,the intakes and reed assemblies are the same in the parts book.1997 also.No sign of a restrictor plate.Even the exhaust tube is the same.Carbs seem to be different, depending on HP,and at $135 each, mabe worth looking into.

DHP
