I just purchased a 1966 Merc 200 for my duck hunting boat, but I'm having trouble with the water pump. I have cleaned the motor, changed spark plugs, and replaced the impeller on the water pump. The motor fires up fine, but no water will pump out of the upper manifold. I have checked for obstructions already but it seems to be clean. At this point I'm getting really frustrated with the motor (please help =).......

One thing to check is whether the water tube is seated properly in the water pump. Also, there could be a piece of the old impeller stuck in the water passages somewhere. You might drop the lower unit and try blowing compressed air back through the tell-tale. Also, if you haven't done so, run a wire or a piece of string-trimmer string up the tell tale. Bugs get inside of these and build nests that will totally block them. You might also make sure the key is correctly seated in the impeller hub.<br /><br />Good luck!
