I bought a bass boat with a 2002 Mercury 200L EFI outboard engine.
The previous owner just dropped the boat off the day before Katrina hit, leaving me with very little info. The boat made it out alive and I am now just getting ready to start the engine. (Never saw the previous owner again.)
It's in my driveway and I have a pair of muffs and water ready to circulate. Would appreciate any suggestions from other readers as to what some "do's and dont's" are before I start the engine up.
Happy Holidays

Make sure you have the correct oil and fresh gas in the tank and check to be sure the lower unit is full of oil, if you do not see water peeing out the pee hose right after it starts shut it off right away. Do not rev it up in the driveway as it tends to **** off the neighbors. A rule of thumb is too not put it in gear unless you are sure no one is anywhere near the prop.

Might be a good idea to fog the cylinders and let it sit a while if you don't know how long it's been idle.

Because you have no history, Id start right off with a complete tune up, (See waking a sleeping outboard) in the FAQ section.

Then you know where you stand on everything.

Also, the water will not start coming out of the pee hole right off, it will take a bit for the thermostat to open.
