Over the holidays I hope to swap over the power trim and lower unit from my parts motor to the good motor. Both are inline 6 1150s the parts motor is a 1970 and the good one is a 1974. Any tips or advice on the type of fluid, bleeding procedure etc for the power trim and precautions for the lower unit swap would be appreciated. I have a Seloc manual but have often found more detailed and helpful advice on this forum than the manual provides.

Re: Power trim fluid

Aerocook, On my '77 1500, the owners manual specifies 5W-30 oil in the PTT system. These systems are not self bleeding, as are the later models. Hopefully your manual gives the procedure. In a nut shell, you need to fill the resovoir, remove the "Down" bleed screw (top of cylinder) and run the pump "down" until all the air is out. Now, remove the cylinder from it mounting bolts, and face the "up" bleed screw up. Remove the screw and run the pump "up" until all the air is out. Reinstall the cylinder, and repeat for the other side.

Re: Power trim fluid

You can use dextron 3 ATF fluid also. Sure is a lot cheeper than the wal-mart power trim fluid.
